All About Me!

    Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog page!  Whether you found this page because you are a librarian, a school librarian, a parent, or you just like reading, this is the place for you!  I will be discussing not only books, but websites that will be useful for your student/child to grow.  I would love to hear your input on the books and sites you use and how you found it helpful, if at all; and don't be shy to share ones I should look into and discuss on here!   But before we get started on that, I should tell you a little about me!!

    My name is Alexandria - Alex.  I am 26 years old and live on Long Island.  I graduated with my bachelor's in Child Study (teaching birth-6th) and Speech.  I am now getting my master's in Library Science, particularly School Librarian.  From a young age, I knew I always wanted to work with children and wanted to be a teacher.  I also - and still do - love to read.  I was always at the library getting books or doing programs.  It wasn't until I started working at my local library at 16, that I knew I wanted to be a librarian.  Oddly enough, I didn't realize that this could be a job - strange I know!  What is the best way to work with children and work with books - School Librarian!!!  

    Besides reading books, what else are my interests?  Well, that's easy!  I love sports, especially hockey, the New York Rangers being my favorite team.  Tennis, horse racing, baseball, and football are a few of my other favorite sports.  I have been going to sporting events before I can even remember.  I am also a Disney adult and an avid churchgoer.  Lately, I have been getting into puzzling, Legos, and rekindling my interest in Pokémon.  In my spare time, I also love playing video games.

    So, that's it; that's all about me and what WE will be discussing on here.  I can't wait for this journey to begin and where it will lead!

Web Base Site #1 - Voki Can Talk

  Voki Can Talk This first week, I would like to talk about a site called Voki.  Voki is a site/app that both students and teachers can use to enhance learning and make it fun.  It is a great way to capture students' attention in many different ways.  There are a lot of learning tools that students can gain from using this app.  Let's start with what the app can be used for.  Well, the simple answer to that is anything, anything that be a "presentation" that is.  As we know, there are different ways to present information to students whether it be through textbooks, presentations, slideshows, videos, pictures.  However, don't you notice that sometimes your students start to lose interest about the topic?  This is where Voki can come in handy.  Voki allows you to present information on any topic in an animated way!  To explain this better, lets talk about the animation, which will show you how and why students will be captivated by t...
